![]() Hi there, it's Mo here with a really special treat. In June, I moderated a panel on the HBO drama "The Leftovers" at the ATX Television Festival in Austin. It was a few days after the show's series finale aired, and on the panel were executive producer Damon Lindelof, executive producer (and author of the novel "The Leftovers") Tom Perrotta, and executive producer/director Mimi Leder. At the start of the conversation, I handed out tissues to all the panelists, because I was fairly sure most of us were going to cry at some point. Many did, but before and after those moments, we talked about the show in depth, and it was life-affirming to hear these creative and thoughtful people talk about the themes of "The Leftovers" and the choices they made and why this amazing program ended the way it did. Near the end, Lindelof made me cry in a way I totally did not see coming (which seems like a very "Leftovers"-ian thing to do, and that moment also has to do with this essay). By the way, if you're a "Leftovers completist, don't miss this previous Talking TV podcast on the show! One other note: Jasmin Savoy-Brown, who played Evie Murphy, was in the audience, and that led to the above moment of mild hilarity (because everyone enjoys Guilty Remnant humor). In any event, I loved moderating this panel, the panelists were wise and funny and informative, the audience questions at the end were great, and lots of people got a little bit misty before it was all over. What more could we ask for? Be sure to subscribe to the new feed for the podcast here if you like to listen on iTunes. It's Mo flying solo and talking to W. Kamau Bell, host of the fine CNN series "United Shades of America, which returns April 30. It's a show that manages to be funny, timely and well-researched, and Bell is one of the best conversationalists on TV right now. Hi, it's Mo here, and I've got Rob Delaney and Sharon Horgan talking about their Amazon series 'Catastrophe.' It's great and you should watch it (and both seasons are on Amazon Prime in the United States). I didn't record an introduction to this podcasta because GarageBand decided to be difficult. Still, they're great, 'Catastrophe' is terrific, and ideally you will enjoy both. One note: Toward the end of the podcast, I mention a show called 'Divorce,' which is a TV series that Sharon is working on for another network (it's nothing to do with 'Catastrophe'). Anyway, thanks for listening! Be sure to subscribe to the new feed for the podcast here if you like to listen on iTunes. Hi there, it's Mo with a podcast all about the Netflix comedy "Master of None." I spoke to co-creator and executive producer Alan Yang and executive producer Mike Schur about the comedy and its origins and its point of view, and we also talked about the state of how TV deals with race, behind the scenes and on screen. These conversations were also part of a couple of big stories I'm dropping this week, on the ABC comedy "Black-ish" and on TV's new, more direct approach to matters of race. If you like this conversation with Schur, by the way, you may like a different conversation with him that we posted a few weeks ago. Hi, it's Mo here with a conversation with Kenya Barris, the creator and showrunner of the ABC comedy "Black-ish." We talked about the Feb. 24 episode of the show, in which the Johnson family has a series of conversations about police brutality and how to discuss it with the younger Johnson kids. We also discussed the racial landscape of TV and what has and hasn't changed there, and we talked about "Black-ish" in general and what makes it such a strong and versatile addition to the television landscape. About halfway through, executive producer Jonathan Groff joined the conversation as well. If you like this podcast, please check out two others that drop this week -- one with interviews with the cast of "Black-ish," one containing conversations with Alan Yang and Mike Schur, executive producers of "Master of None." And please check out my stories on "Black-ish" and how TV talks about race on the Variety web site, if you care to. A special edition of the Talking TV podcast with a special guest -- Hitfix critic Alan Sepinwall (feel free to think of the episode as a rare edition of the Firewall and Mo-Berg podcast). We talk about the new, revised edition of Alan's book, "The Revolution Was Televised," and discuss what we love, don't love and question about the current TV landscape. Talk of Alan's book and general questions about the state of TV are woven into conversations about some of the shows on the Top 10 rosters we submitted this year to Hitfix's annual critics poll. Here are time codes for the discussions (and there is some overlap here and there, as well as a few mentions of other shows not listed here): 0 - 7:19 Introduction and book talk 7:20 - 12:59 Master of None 13:00 - 18:30 TV's worst trend 26:00 - 29:33 The Leftovers 29:34 - 37:29 The 100 37:30 - 41:49 The trouble with many broadcast network dramas 41:50 - 50:25 Fargo 50:26 - 58:21 You're the Worst 58:22 - 63:39 What's missing from TV 63:40 - end Mad Men Be sure to subscribe to the new feed for the podcast here if you like to listen on iTunes. ![]() It's Mo here with a "Sleepy Hollow" chat with the show's showrunner and executive producer Mark Goffman. I wouldn't call this spoiler-iffic, but there are some light teasers about Season 2. There aren't many plot specifics about individual episodes. Goffman and I do talk about the general philosophy behind Season 2, the new character played by Matt Hawley, what his arrival will mean for Ichabod and Abbie and the epic nature of the core duo's quest. Enjoy, Sleepyheads! Be sure to subscribe to the new feed for the podcast here if you like to listen on iTunes. You'll see plenty of ways in each post to stream or download MP3s if you hate iTunes as much as Ichabod hates skinny jeans. You can also subscribe on Stitcher if you like.
